Ebola Outbreak Response Requires Engaging with Religious Traditions and Leaders

In an op-ed published by STAT, Secretariat member Olivia Wilkinson and Commissioner Katherine Marshall argue that effective Ebola outbreak response requires engaging religious and traditional leaders from the outset. Drawing on lessons from previous Ebola outbreaks in West Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, they contend that biomedical interventions alone are insufficient when disease transmission is closely tied to caregiving practices and burial traditions.
